The hands-on workshop will provide the basics of how the Internet works and understanding on how obtain relevant information from authoritative sources. Participants will also look at some case studies and do some practical exercises as part of the workshop.

Some of the topics to be discussed are:

2. Tools, Technique an Tips on getting information

3. Case Studies – involving logs, headers etc

4. Topics of Interest – Proxies, VPNs, Attribution

Topic: Securing Our Organisations Against Cyber Attacks

With growing dependency on the ICT infrastructure, it has resulted in the critical information infrastructure becoming increasingly more vulnerable to cyber attacks. While there are great opportunities and benefits in leveraging on cloud computing and big data on one hand, yet on the other hand, we are faced with increasing threats and the risks from hostile adversaries in the realm of cyberspace. This desk top exercise is therefore aimed at getting the response of participants in different scenarios during a cyber attack that may originate from sources outside the country. Participants would have to, among others, relate those incidents to the cyber security governance of their respective country as well as policies and procedures in responding to the incidents.

INTERPOL’s role and effort in combating cybercrime

In his presentation, the speaker will provide an overview of the new INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI), currently being built in Singapore and how the IGCI will be striving to forge a Global Alliance in the fight against Cybercrime, based on three key pillars 1) Operational support to law enforcement agencies, 2) Capacity building and 3) Harmonization of perspectives to tackle cybercrime in terms of legal structures, procedures, SOPs etc.
