1. Oman to be Regional Cyber Security Hub

Muscat – Oman's National Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT) has been chosen as the regional centre for cyber security for 21 countries across the Arab region in a move that will boost Oman's position in the e-security sector, according to officials at the Information Technology Authority (ITA).

 

Recognising the role played by ITA, represented by OCERT, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday between OCERT and IMPACT (The International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threat), which is the cyber security arm of the United Nations' specialised agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The MoU was signed in cooperation with ITU.

2. With cyber-attack on Middle East's oil and gas a very real possibility, experts gather to discuss solutions

Muscat, 3rd April 2012 – Following a day focused on international collaboration and knowledge sharing as potential solutions against the ever-increasing threat of cyber warfare, day two of the Cyber Defence Summit was opened by Marco Obiso, Cyber Security Coordinator at ITU.

 

Amongst the experts that contributed on this second day were Shawn Henry, Former Executive Assistant Director, Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch, Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 2009, SC Magazine confirmed him as one of the top industry pioneers to have shaped the information security industry. One year later, he was named cybercrime fighter of the year by McAfee Inc, and as one of the most influential people in security by Security Magazine.

3. Regional cyber security collaboration deemed the key following recent hacking of BBC

Muscat, April 2nd 2012 - When the BBC suffered a sophisticated cyber-attack at the beginning of last month, it led to the jamming of international TV stations and parts of the organisation were unable to access email and other internet services

 

This is not an isolated incident however, and following a string of high-profile hacks a united front is required to tackle a problem that has been in the headlines since early 2011.

4. Penyelarasan Latihan Siber OIC-CERT Berjaya Tangani Krisis Siber Yang Disasar

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Feb (Bernama) — Pasukan Tindak Balas Kecemasan Komputer -Pertubuhan Kerjasama Islam (OIC-CERT) mengadakan latihan siber pertamanya bertemakan "Serangan Disasar dan Penyelarasan Krisis Siber" di kalangan anggotanya tahun ini.

 

Latihan siber itu yang diadakan awal minggu ini adalah untuk menilai keupayaan tindak balas Pasukan Tindak Balas Insiden Keselamatan Komputer (CSIRT)daripada pasukan OIC-CERT masing-masing dalam menangani serangan siber yang disasar, demikian menurut kenyataan yang dikeluarkan bersama oleh Sekretariat OIC-CERT: TunCERT (Pusat Penyelarasan Pasukan Tindak Balas Kecemasan Komputer Tunisia) dan CyberSecurity Malaysia (Jabatan Pembabitan Pelbagai hala).

5. OIC-CERT Cyber Drill Coordination Successful In Addressing Targeted Cyber Crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) — The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Teams (OIC-CERT) had its first cyber drill themed "Targeted Attacks and Cyber Crisis Coordination" among its members this year.

 

The cyber drill, held early this week, is to assess the response capability of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRT) from respective OIC-CERT teams in mitigating targeted cyber attacks.

6. OIC-CERT Cyber Crisis Coordination Addresses Targeted Cyber Attacks

(KUALA LUMPUR) – The Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Teams (OIC-CERT) has successfully completed the first cyber drill among the members yesterday, Tuesday, 22 February 2012. With the theme "Targeted Attacks and Cyber Crisis Coordination", the OIC-CERT Drill 2012 aimed to assess the response capability of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRT) from respective OIC-CERT teams on mitigate targeted cyber attacks.

The objective of OIC-CERT Drill 2012 was for the participating teams to exercise their incident response handling arrangements locally and internationally. The drill aimed to measure the readiness of the participants in facing cyber attacks. The impact of cyber threats can be destructive when it involved advanced malicious software and high profile technology.
